Antioxidant
Antioxidants are substances that may protect cells from the damage caused by unstable molecules known as free radicals. Oxidation is a chemical reaction that transfers electrons from a substance to an oxidizing agent. An antioxidant is a molecule capable of inhibiting the oxidation of other molecules. Antioxidants terminate chain reactions by removing free radical intermediates, and inhibit other oxidation reactions. They do this by being oxidized themselves, so antioxidants are often reducing agents such as thiols, ascorbic acid or polyphenols.
This type of dietary supplement is very important because they reduce the maturation of muscles tissue, tendon and ligaments. The most common antioxidants are: vitamin C, A and E, zinc flavonoids and carotenoids
In conclusion antioxidants help us in our physical activity and help us to prevent ilness such as cancer. Free radical damage may lead to cancer. Antioxidants interact with and stabilize free radicals and may prevent some of the damage free radicals might otherwise cause. Examples of antioxidants include beta-carotene, lycopene, vitamins C, E, and A, and other substances.
Important laboratories evidence from chemical, cell culture, and animal studies indicates that antioxidants may slow or possibly prevent the development of cancer.*(Wikipedia).
